The treehouse Cliff Cabin
On a hill near Fiddan Øko Gård (organic farm), you’ll discover a unique log cabin. Cliff Cabin stands on oak stilts at the edge of a cliff, seamlessly blending with nature amidst ancient twisted pine trees and the oak forest on the slope below.
The cabin boasts an area of approximately 50 m2 and is built over 4 levels, offering stunning views of Audnedalen valley between the treetops. The living room features an open fireplace for genuine cabin coziness, perfect for grilling as well. The wood stove in the kitchen serves as the primary heat source, complemented by an oven for preparing delightful meals. The kitchen is well-equipped with a refrigerator, a gas cooktop with 4 burners, and a sink with hot and cold water. Around the dining table, there’s seating for 8.
Evening lighting is provided by candles, flames from an open fireplace, and the wood stove in the kitchen, creating a cozy atmosphere and a sense of traveling back in time. A couple of subdued electric lamps make life easier, and the cabin has a few 220v electrical outlets for charging phones, lanterns, and operating the refrigerator.
There are sleeping accommodations for 7 people with comfortable mattresses – 2 double and 3 single beds. For additional sleeping spaces, a daybed in the living room and a Brazilian hammock are available.
Both outside and inside the cabin, you seamlessly connect with nature, as everything is constructed with minimal impact on the environment.
Hot tub with panoramic view
The cabin itself is just one component of the complete package, which also features a variety of outdoor activities. The most sought-after experience is undoubtedly the hot tub with a panoramic view. The tub is heated with wood and strategically placed near the edge of the cliff.
Adjacent to the hot tub, there is a terrace equipped with benches and tables, along with a feeding station for small birds and squirrels. Beneath the cabin, a sheltered bench provides a cozy spot for rainy days, and nearby, there’s a delightful and invigorating outdoor shower with hot water.
Cable car station with a unique outhouse
The cable car, concluding its journey at the upper cable car station approximately 20 meters from Cliff Cabin, serves multiple purposes. It is utilized for transporting luggage and firewood up from the parking lot and is at the disposal of our guests.
At this location, you will also discover a unique outdoor toilet extending beyond the cliff’s edge with a 7-meter freefall, a storage area for firewood, and a carpenter’s workshop where both young and old can try their hand at hammering and sawing.
Treehouse for children and a bonfire spot
Children are warmly welcomed, and they have an exclusive four-story treehouse all to themselves. Modeled after Wilderness Tower (our second treehouse), this playhouse is an additional treat for families. So, not only do families have Cliff Cabin to enjoy, but they also get an extra treehouse just for the kids.
For the adults, there’s a cozy bonfire spot at the top of the hill, right next to the playhouse. The fire pit comes complete with a grill grate, and you can find hot dog sticks in the kitchen drawers. Bonfires are allowed throughout the year, as long as there is no risk of forest fires.
The farm and the parking
100 meters up the hill past the barn at Fiddan Eco-Farm, you’ll find the parking area and woodshed where the cable car begins.
From the parking lot, you must take a steep path and climb some stairs approximately 150 meters up to Cliff Cabin. If you have a lot of luggage, it can be sent up to the top with the cable car. Firewood for heating is also transported using the cable car.
The proximity to our small organic farm, Fiddan Øko Gård, makes a farm visit a natural part of your stay.
Swimming, fishing, and forest hikes
Fiddan’s pond is an ideal spot for a fishing excursion or a rejuvenating dip on hot summer days. For those seeking the charm of waterfalls or small bathing pools, follow Fiddan’s stream down the valley. Fiddan is enveloped by lush forest from every angle, providing excellent hiking opportunities.
WELCOME TO CLIFF CABIN!
The construction process and the story
When Ånen Fiddan was 14 years old, he planted spruce saplings.
Today he has passed 80 and witnessed his son, Knut André, fell the trees he had planted and transform them into a unique log cabin. The construction was inherently historic even before completion, with solid wood walls crafted solely from materials sourced from their own forest. Ånen himself actively participated in the building process, providing invaluable assistance.
Surprisingly, three generations were involved in this project, as Luna, at the age of 5, was a frequent visitor to the construction site, energetically wielding a hammer.
Every part of the cabin has a story to tell. For instance, the tabletops and kitchen counter originate from a Douglas fir planted by a friend’s great-grandfather. The stones in the fireplace were sourced from the foundation of a barn built on Fiddan in 1919.
Access to the cabin is not by road, and all construction materials were hoisted up using a cable car. This task proved more challenging than anticipated, but as things began to take shape, the hard work was forgotten in the thrill of accomplishment!
